Vegas hotel unveils Elvis extravaganza

via Yahoo! News.
Friday night's premiere before a star-studded audience of 1,800 at the specially designed Elvis theater in the new Aria Hotel got off to a rocky start when, in the middle of the first number, house lights went on, the stage went dark and there was an announcement that an alarm had

gone off. After a five-minute break, the show resumed to sighs of relief. Videos were projected in a gigantic juke box frame as Elvis' voice filled the theater singing "Blue Suede Shoes." Scenes from his concerts, the hysteria of his fans, and his TV appearances set the stage for a retrospective of his life.

Another dubious distinction for Vegas...

Link: The market’s fallout - Las Vegas Sun.

As reported Tuesday in the Las Vegas Sun by Brian Wargo, the number of foreclosures — 2,177 — was more than double the number of homes sold in December. This is only the latest troubling number in the state housing market.

Great article on Superbowl betting in Vegas at ReviewJournal.com

via ReviewJournal.com

The state's record handle for a Super Bowl is $94.5 million, set two years ago when the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Seattle Seahawks. The total ''dipped'' to $93 million for last year's Super Bowl, when the Indianapolis Colts beat the Chicago Bears.

More on Las Vegas Super Bowl Parties

Important Note about the great brew pub in the Monte Carlo......

Due to the fire at the Monte Carlo the Brew Pub will not be open on Feb. 3 The Monte Carlo Brewery might be a good choice but it is hard to find out if they are actually open to the public on Super Bowl Sunday. It seems as if they are but you might want to double check. The ESPN zone at NY/NY is also a place to check for a special event.

Super Bowl Parties in Las Vegas

The next best thing to being there is a Las Vegas Super Bowl Party.  Just about everyone has money on the game, sometimes a LOT of money, so the room is tense, and lots of fun.  Me, I'm not planning anything. In the past I've been lucky and got invites to some pretty amazing parties....I'll probably end up in a sports book somewhere.  Should be a good game!  One thing I didn't know:

....the major hotels no longer have any big parties due to a bunch of regulations the NFL has placed upon them. However, there are plenty of special event parties that are hosted around town where the game is going on and plenty of action is happening concurrently.

Vegas becoming a security lab

via The Washington Post via MSNBC.com.

The casino industry, like the national security industry, is seeking information to answer a fundamental question: Who are you?

"It's, are you a good guy or a bad guy? A threat or a non-threat?"
