And thus begins a hopefully probably brief series on my new job search. I'm in better spirits than someone in my situation probably should be.....
Today was actually a great experience, catching up with colleagues and ex-colleagues and old friends that I have been too busy to contact without a reason. Now I have a good one! Have had some good discussions and some great leads, and even a few offers of offers if I'm interested when the dust settles in a week or two.
Over the weekend I polished the resume, cleaned up my personal Web site, and re-activated my dusty, unused LinkedIn and Facebook accounts, and signed up for Twitter and FriendFeed, because Scoble says won't get a job without them.
Actually, I think he's partly right - even back in 2002-2003 (the last time I looked for a job) posting your resume and searching/applying for jobs on the old job search engines got you a lot of attention from "agencies" looking to take a cut of your pay, and almost no attention from actual employers looking for resources. It only seems to have gotten crazier since then. Working your LinkedIn, FaceBook or Twitter network to get the word out and have people reach you seems to be a much more viable option these days.
Anyway, I have much more on the job search and my experiences with the Networks later. hey, I even have some LotusScript postings and an app to help link Notes contacts to social software networks - coming soon!
